If you are interested in booking your children into swimming lessons at Huish Leisure you can call us to reserve a space today. Your child will be added to the waiting list and a member of staff will be in touch to book your lesson.


Huish Leisure will be following the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme which is the leading national teaching syllabus for delivering safe, inclusive and effective swimming lessons for all ages.

Our Swimming Instructors will be using the following framework;

Pre-School (Duckling) – This Framework is aimed at babies and toddlers aged between 0-5 years old. It helps to build the foundation for a lifelong love of water. 

Learn to Swim (Stages 1-7) – This Framework is made up of the seven stages of learning to swim, which develop confident and able swimmers using fun and enjoyment to engage learners.

The 25 metre indoor swimming pool will provide the Primary School students, Academy students and the local community with swimming all year round.

The swimming pool will be supervised by RLSS qualified lifeguards, providing a safe environment.

Learn to Swim - Stage 4

The Learn to Swim Awards 1-7 are divided into progressive stages. They make up the core, national syllabus of learning to swim for primary school aged children.

They are designed to reward your child for their development of the essential aquatic skills they need to be confident, competent and safe in the water.

Each of the Learn to Swim Awards 1-7 stages has a list of clear outcomes that need to be completed in order to gain each award.

Stage 4 of the Learn to Swim Awards is suitable for children aged 4 years + who are able to swim 10 metres unaided. They will be working towards learning kicking techniques for front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. also emphasis on buoyancy and floating in the water.

Stage 4 Outcomes

By completing this Award, without floatation equipment or support, you will be able to:

  • Perform a sequence of changing shapes (minimum of three) whilst floating on the surface and demonstrate an understanding of floating.
  • Push and glide from the wall towards the pool floor.
  • Kick 10 metres backstroke (one item of equipment optional).
  • Kick 10 metres front crawl (one item of equipment optional).
  • Kick 10 metres butterfly on the front or on the back.
  • Kick 10 metres breaststroke on the front (one item of equipment optional).
  • Perform a head first sculling action for 5 metres in a flat position on the back.
  • Travel on back and log roll in one continuous movement onto front.
  • Travel on front and log roll in one continuous movement onto back.
  • Push and glide and swim 10 metres, choice of stroke is optional.
